I am having wii sensor issues, any help?

When my kitten chewed through the wires of my wii sensor, I tried to fix it with tape, but of course, that didn’t work. I then decided to get a wireless one, which turned out to be complete crap as it drains batteries like crazy. Recently I discovered that pointing my wii remote in different ways while the sensor is off (like always, since it’s practically permanently dead.) I get the hand on the screen, by pointing it at the christmas tree, or the basket under the TV. I checked, and the old kitten chewed one was disconnected to the wii, and when I moved the dead wireless one away, it still did this. While this is helpful, it freaks me out a bit. Any explanation?
